Accessible dune trail with viewing decks near Carter Lake, 13 miles north.
The first half-mile of this trail is wheelchair accessible, leading to two viewing decks and a bench overlooking nearby lakes, sand dunes, deflation plains, and the ocean. Beyond, it winds through forest, rhododendron groves, and marshes before joining the Carter Dune Trail to reach the beach — the rhododendrons bloom in late spring. Located 13 miles north of Reedsport on US 101; turn west at Carter Lake Campground, with the trail immediately on the right. Distance: 2 miles to the beach one way. Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Fee/pass required for parking; vault toilet at trailhead.
